Spirituality & Charism
Rooted in Francis — reaching out to God's people
Our Identity
Spirituality & Charism
As Franciscan Sisters, the essence of our charism and spirituality lies in our commitment to a life of continuous conversion and renewal. Our fundamental Franciscan values are contemplation, simplicity, joy, fraternity, poverty, metanoia and minority. These values lie at the heart of our spirituality.
In our approach to God's people, hospitality is a special mark of the service we offer. Our primary apostolate is the witness we give through the apostolate of education, in the broadest, fullest sense of the term (Constitution and Statutes, C4), particularly to the poor and the needy.
The Marian Dimension
In 1854, Pope Pius IX approved our first Constitution — coinciding with the proclamation of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. At the request of Pope Pius IX, the Franciscan and Marian spiritualities were joined and lived according to the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi.
As a result, we honor the Blessed Virgin Mary as our special patroness, and we are known as Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception.
Our Fundamental Values
Contemplation
Regular prayer and deep listening to God forms the foundation of our active ministry in the world.
Simplicity
We embrace a simple way of life, free from attachment to material things, in imitation of St. Francis.
Joy
Franciscan joy — born of the Gospel — marks all our interactions and apostolate.
Fraternity
Community life rooted in mutual love and care, reflecting the family of God.
Poverty
Gospel poverty practiced as freedom — allowing us to serve without condition.
Hospitality
A special mark of the service we offer, welcoming all who come to us as Christ himself.
Mission Statement
Following the vision and hope of our Foundresses, we willingly answer Christ's call to respond to the needs of the local Church, particularly in its pastoral service to the poor and needy.
